I’m all about living life and letting it happen, but sometimes you need to step back and ask about the bigger picture.
In this case, I guess I am guilty of doing that. I was on a flight last week and I was really trying to enjoy the experience but I kept getting distracted by the flight attendants and it began to feel like they were more interested in my every move than the plane. I was also talking to my friend tibbott and he was kind of annoyed that I was still talking to him and he was in his seat on the other end of the flight.
He’s right, but it’s not just that you can’t escape the flight attendant’s attention. Every day, our bodies become like robots programmed to work together to carry out the same purpose. We have the same parts of our brains to work together on the same task, so it can be really easy to ignore your own needs and desires and focus on the needs of the other person.
This is where self-awareness and self-awareness from someone else come in. While we’re talking about the need for self-awareness, someone else who is in a similar situation might say, “You can’t turn yourself off.” People like to be in charge and we don’t like to be in charge. The same is true for the need for self-awareness.
So, in our case, we have the parts of our brains that make us function best in a group and the parts that make us function best individually. The two are often confused, but are very similar. We are best when we act as a team and in a group, we have a tendency to give up our own desires and needs to help someone else. This is not always a good thing, but it is sometimes necessary.
But sometimes, like many people, we are so self-absorbed that we don’t even realize how we are acting. I remember taking a class at UCLA where I was in my freshman year and one of the other students was talking about how he had to sleep with his head on a pillow in order to get a good night’s rest. I laughed along with him because I didn’t realize he was aware of how self-absorbed he was.
This is the same thing as when I was taking that class. Self-absorption is just that – self-absorption. I do not want to be the kind of person who is so self-absorbed that I can’t imagine anyone else’s needs. I just want to be someone who is able to be self-aware.
One of the most obvious ways we get self-awareness is through practice. How many of us have practiced a particular skill to the point that we remember how to do it? We can practice not being self-absorbed, and as a result, remember how to practice being self-aware.
In the first scene of the game, the main character, Colt Vahn, is shown a small piece of furniture with a headrest so he can keep track of where he looks at the screen and how he walks. With the help of a camera he can then walk around the building, making sure he knows where he is going and who he’s looking for.
A lot of players of Fallout and Wolfenstein 3D games are also self-absorbed, so maybe this is a way to combat this. It’s not clear whether that headrest is for the purposes of tracking the player, or if it’s just a way to “practice looking at the TV” and so the player can better memorize how they move to avoid becoming a walking zombie.
