I don’t think you need to be an intern to work at Google. I’ve spent a lot of time working at startups, and I know from experience that everyone who works there is on some kind of a project.
Yes, it’s true. Working from home means you can work on whatever you want and without supervision. That’s one of the main advantages of working from home, but it can also be one of the downsides. Because there’s no real person to point you in the right direction, you’re just left to figure it out on your own.
I know it isn’t fun or glamorous, but it is a great deal of work. There is no way you would be able to do your job well if no one was watching you. I have had people tell me that working for Google makes them feel like theyre not really doing their job as much as they should be, but I know they are.
Its a huge time investment. Its not for everyone. But it is a lot easier than walking from one office building to the next. And you actually have some control over what you are doing. You can set your own hours, and you can set your own goals. You can set the clock to start at 8:00am or finish at 10:00pm every day rather than waiting until the last minute to finish. You can set your own schedule, and it will make you more productive.
With that said, I think we should encourage people to actually do the things that they are told to do. Its easier to do a job than to just sit back and wait for someone to do it for you. You might think that if you just go to the manual and read the instructions you are more likely to do it right, but its much more likely that you will do it wrong. I also think it is important to recognize that time is a limited resource.
I think the key with time management is to use it as wisely as possible. You can set your own work hours, but you should try to do everything that is assigned to you. Even if you are assigned to do something, just because its a time-consuming task doesn’t mean that you should do it.
